A fresh look for Extra – and more ways for members to stay informed

Extra newsletter 2025
The 2025 edition of Extra, the newsletter for preserved members of the railways pension schemes, is now available—and it’s had a refresh.

Thanks to member feedback, Extra has been redesigned with a new look and improved content to make it more engaging and easier to navigate. Whether members prefer to read on screen or on paper, there’s now a version of Extra to suit their needs.

What’s inside this edition?

This year’s Extra includes:

  • A message from the Trustee Chair, reflecting on the 200th anniversary of the modern railway and how members can get involved in the celebrations
  • Details of the 2025 pension increase and how it affects preserved members
  • Tips on protecting pensions from fraud
  • Insights into Sustainable Ownership and how member views are shaping investment decisions
  • A reminder for members to update their death benefit nominations

Two digital versions – their choice

Members can now access Extra online in two formats:

  • Interactive version – with videos, quick links, and a layout that adjusts to different screen sizes
  • PDF version – ideal for downloading and reading offline

If a member has received a printed edition, it’s because they previously chose to manage their pension by post.

Prefer paper? Members are in control

Members who prefer to receive pension communications by post can continue to do so. They can check and update their communication preferences at any time by logging into their myRPS or myFund account and selecting ‘Communication preferences’ from the menu.

Even if they prefer paper, members are encouraged to register for an online account to access a wider range of tools and information on their member website.

Feedback welcome
