Your new BTPFSF Scams pensions communications toolkit is now online

£26.4 million was lost to pension scams in recent years.* So we’ve created a new toolkit to help you raise awareness with your employees about the threat scammers pose to pension savers, and help them understand where to go for guidance.

A pension is often the largest sum of money people have in their lifetime.

Fraudsters are always finding more sophisticated ways to part savers with their hard-earned pension money. So, it’s essential that members know how to spot a scam, and understand the steps they should take to protect their pension savings.

This pensions toolkit is here to help you communicate the dangers of scams with Fund members, and to share some tips on how to keep their money safe.

What does the toolkit cover?

  • The scale of the pension scams problem – 26.4 million was lost to pension scams in recent years, but less than 1 in 5 instances of scams are reported.
  • Why members should always beware of scams, and know the warning signs. Once the money is gone, it’s almost impossible to get back.
  • How to spot the warning signs of a pension scam, including some of the common expressions scammers use to trick people.
  • The steps members can take to keep their pension savings safe, such as keeping their guard up and ignoring anything that sounds too good to be true.
